Abstract

Eggs are foods rich in protein and energy. The study examines the use of fertile guinea fowl and turkey egg yolk in the larval rearing of Clarias gariepinus. The objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of turkey and guinea fowl fertile egg yolks on zootechnical and survival performances on the larval stage of Clarias gariepinus. The experimental design was a Fisher randomized complete block of three treatments with three replicates. The test was carried out in 09 rectangular aquariums of 20 liters of volume. The stocking density was 10 larvae/liter. Three experimental diets were tested and consisted of the control treatment (TT) used the imported feed "MeM prime," a treatment containing guinea fowl egg yolk (TP), and a treatment containing turkey egg yolk (TD). The duration of the experiment was 12 days. The larvae were fed to apparent satiation 5 times a day. At the end of the experiments, the zootechnical and feed utilization parameters varied according to the treatments (P < 0.05). The biomass gain varied from 1,026.67 ± 26.67 (TP) to 1,993.33 ± 6.67 mg (TT). The same trend was observed with the final biomass, which varied from 2,033.33 ± 33.33 (TP) to 3,000.00 ± 5.77 mg (TT). The survival rate varied according to the treatments (P < 0.05). No significant difference (P ˃ 0.05) was observed between the control treatment and the TP treatment. But a significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed between the TD treatment and the other treatments (TP and TT). The survival rate varied between 47.33 ± 1.45 (TP) and 63.00 ± 3.22% (TD). Therefore guinea fowl and turkey fertile egg yolks are potential economically profitable and accessible feeds for the larval breeding of Clarias gariepinus
