Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the health quality of used papers used in the informal sector in the city of San-Pedro. Fifteen samples of used papers of various types were taken from vendors and placed in sterile bags, labelled and the whole was placed in a cooler for conservation and transport to the laboratory for the search for fecal coliforms according to the ISO 4832:2006 method. Two bags not containing a sample served as a control. The results showed that the minimum load was observed at the level of the sample E13 (5.102 CFU/ mm2) and the maximum load in fecal coliforms was observed at the level of sample E9 (4.5.105 CFU/ mm2). Samples E4 and E14 each have a load of 103 CFU/mm2. As for samples E2, E3, E5 and E7, the bacterial load counted was respectively 7.8.104; 7.102; 3.2.103 and 1.7.104 CFU/mm2. Used papers used as food packaging are of unsatisfactory microbiological quality in the city of San-Pedro.
